New Scots Documentary – 30 Years On – 16 October, 5.30 p.m.
Archive screening of three episodes of early 90s STV docu-series, which talks to families who have immigrated to different cities in Scotland. We hear from different generations of each family about their lives in Scotland covering the subjects of family, religion and ethnic identity. The screening will include a panel with some of the people who feature in the episodes to explore how their lives in Scotland and views have changed in the past three decades. This panel will have live captions.

Young Soul Rebels 23 October

A landmark for Black – and Queer – British film, Isaac Julien’s iconic, beautifully crafted 1991 period piece has been newly remastered by the BFI.

GFT is marking Black History Month at GFT by screening a varied season of fantastic films and special events. The season kicks off on Monday 9 October with a special preview of Cassius X: Becoming Ali + a Q&A with author Stuart Cosgrove.

The film, which was a hit at Glasgow Film Festival earlier this year, follows the early years of Cassius Clay, from bright-eyed rookie to world heavyweight champion and from working class intellectual to one of America’s most influential civil rights campaigners.

Also featured in the season is The New Scots: 30 Years On — an archive screening of three episodes of early 90s STV docu-series which talks to families who immigrated to Scotland; a 4K restoration of Young Soul Rebels; and a Black Scottish History: Exploring Your Family Archive Workshop.
