Tina Freeland will be teaching Iyengar Yoga classes at Woodlands for People of Colour for the next year. The classes are free to attend and have been generously funded by Iyengar Yoga UK. By supporting these classes, IYUK are giving a clear signal about their intentions in becoming a more inclusive organisation.
Tina is the chair of the Equity Committee of Iyengar Yoga UK and is charged with ensuring that Iyengar yoga is made more equitable and inclusive. However, many yoga spaces are perceived as the domain of “white middle-class”people. Without actively engaging with different groups of people, this stereotype will remain. She would like to not only spread the benefits of yoga, but also change the perception and enable People of Colour and people from the LGBTQIA + community to feel comfortable in a yoga class.
The classes will take place in Woodlands community meeting room, which is quite a small space. It will be on a first come first serve basis so please arrive a little early to get a spot.
The classes are open to all People of Colour aged 18+ and all equipment will be provided.
