A mythical portrayal of puberty, Lisa Brühlmann’s Blue My Mind is a powerful coming of age body-horror that shares as much with Catherine Hardwicke’s Thirteen as it does with David Cronenberg. As questionable relationships develop in an already volatile stage in her life, 15-year-old Mia’s body begins to transform in terrifying ways. Disappearing in a haze of alcohol and drugs to appease her fear only leads to darker pathways, leading her to question who – or what – she actually is. This refreshing and terrifying take on the loss of youth contains mature themes and images; viewer discretion is advised. GFF17
