Scottish Women’s Convention – STEMinism
Saturday, 11 November 2023 11:30 – 15:30
The Scottish Women’s Convention are holding a hybrid conference to explore what needs to change to keep women in STEM.
In 2022, 2,891,788 people were employed within STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers, with this expected to increase by 2.9% by 2026 . This growth is expected to continue beyond this, as new working styles and technologies drive forward significant change in the way employment is organised. Regardless of major advancements in STEM fields, women are regularly missing within these workforces, particularly at management levels.
At the SWC, they want to understand why women are not staying within STEM sectors, despite increasing numbers entering university to study STEM courses: 35% of STEM students in higher education in the UK are women, however only 24% of those in STEM employment are women. Therefore, they are holding a conference which focuses on what needs to change to keep women with STEM sectors, so women are not left behind by the inevitable technological advancements of the coming decades.
