The Brand New testament
God is alive and well, and his daughter is not happy.
Friday 15 – Thursday 21 April, 2016
GFT
It may have escaped your attention but God (Benoît Poelvoorde) is alive and well, and living in Brussels with his wife (Yolande Moreau) and their ten-year-old daughter Ea (Pili Groyne). Time has made the Almighty cruel and capricious, so Ea retaliates by writing a brand new testament, performing a few minor miracles and texting everyone on the planet with the exact day and time of their deaths. Nominated for the Golden Globe as one of the year’s Best Foreign Language Films, Jaco Van Dormael’s satire on the absurdity of organised religion is as stylishly executed as it is wittily conceived.
