The 39 Steps at Websters
12 – 16 March, 2024
Websters, 416 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G4 9HZ
The 39 Steps is a hilarious, fast-paced, 1930s comedy thriller, adapted by Patrick Barlow, from the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, and the novel by John Buchan.
Take an Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece, a spicy spy novel, and a riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive physical theatre and stagecraft, and you have this riotous and magical piece of theatre.
Set in London, Edinburgh, the Scottish Highlands, and London again, this brilliantly spiffing adventure follows our dashing hero Richard Hannay (complete with stiff-upper-lip and a fine pencil moustache) as he races to solve the mystery of The 39 Steps, all while trying to clear his name following a dastardly murder.
This two-time Tony Award winner, Laurence Olivier Award winner, and Drama Desk Award winning treat is packed with nonstop gripping comedy, with more than 100 farcical characters to swoon over, played by a small, yet ridiculously talented, cast of fearless performers, and includes an onstage plane crash, a Forth Bridge train ride, a set of inescapable handcuffs, and a good old-fashioned story of love and romance, all featuring our beastly handsome hero (did we mention his fine pencil moustache?) and our devilishly beautiful heroine!
