Widely considered to be the Marx brothers’ best film, Duck Soup (1933) sees Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho Marx) appointed the new leader of the tiny bankrupt nation of Freedonia. Committed to mayhem and chaos at every turn, Firefly’s leadership incites Freedonia into war with rival country Sylvania. With its frenetic slapstick, sharp zingers, and complete buffoonery, Duck Soup remains the quintessential anarchic comedy.
